Dark Passion Play

In questa sezione seguiremo passo passo la nascita e la crescita del Sesto Album dei Nightwish, in lavorazione da Settembre 2006.
Come abbiamo già avuto modo di ricordare nelle news di Nightwish Italy, il primo singolo, Eva, è previsto per il 30 Maggio 2007, mentre l'uscita del disco, preceduto da un altro singolo, è programmata per il 28 Settembre, prima del tour autunnale negli Stati Uniti

Anticipazioni sulle Tracce

Sono già note alcune informazioni in merito ai brani composti.
In particolare ci saranno:

• Un brano lento, il cui ritmo può essere utilizzato come sottofondo per un viaggio nel Nord Africa (cit. Jukka)


• Un pezzo di 14 minuti, con cambi da ritmo base a riff estremamente heavy. Secondo Tuomas, il miglior pezzo che abbia mai scritto finora. Secondo la nuova cantante Il brano ha tanti elementi: forza, emozioni, morbidezza e rudezza. Questa combinazione ne fa un’esperienza totale, come un film.
  Il magazine finlandese Soundi ha pubblicato una piccola anticipazione su questa canzone che si intitolerà The Poet And The Pendolum e che dovrebbe contenere i seguenti versi:

  I cannot cry
  'cause the shoulder cries more
  I cannot die
  I, the whore for the cold world



• Una canzone che ha "Woods" come titolo provvisorio e che richiama le melodie tradizionali finlandesi. La nuova cantante ha tratto ispirazione per il canto dalle tradizioni del popolo Sami e afferma che questo brano rappresenta l’incontro tra la Lapponia e un deserto sabbioso.


• Una cover ricavata da un tema originale senza testo, sulla quale Tuomas ha composto le lyrics. Sarà una bonus track e non è ancora noto se l’autore concederà il permesso per la pubblicazione della cover.


• Un pezzo in cui si alternano riff scritti da Marco e da Tuomas. Dovrebbe trattarsi di un pezzo con influenze celtiche cantato solamente da Marco e composto principalmente da lui


• Un brano con influenze Old School, composto da Emppu. Il testo è stato scritto da Tuomas e su questa canzone sono stati fatti molti esperimenti in studio. Alla fine il brano risulta avere influenze un po’ spettrali, un incrocio tra The Grudge e Tim Burton.


• Una ballad, probabilmente Eva, il nuovo singolo in uscita a fine maggio. E’ un pezzo soft e triste, molto emozionante a detta della nuova cantante. Secondo le informazioni raccolte durante le registrazioni dell’orchestra si sentiranno l’arpa e un tappeto d’archi.


• Un brano semplice ma molto efficace. Dovrebbe trattarsi di un pezzo inizialmente pensato come bonus track, molto allegro e melodico, con un ritornello che rimane impresso. Dopo le registrazioni si sta valutando di inserirlo nell’album.


• Una canzone con l'atmosfera di Wish I Had An Angel, forse il pezzo più cattivo in cui si potrà ascoltare una parte in growl registrata da Tuomas e da un giornalista musicale ospite in studio


• Un pezzo che all'ascolto parrebbe semplice ma che in realtà è molto difficile da suonare


• Un'altra ballad piuttosto lenta. Dovrebbe essere un pezzo soft che porta la nuova cantante all’estremo della sua estensione vocale, con un bel testo e un feeling malinconico.


• Un brano estremamente veloce che porta al limite le capacità esecutive dei Nightwish. Qui dovrebbero cantare insieme Marco e la nuova Vocalist

Registrazioni

La batteria è stata registrata presso i Petrax Studios di Hollola in Settembre. Emppu a Ottobre ha registrato la Chitarra presso il suo studio a Kerava. Marco subito dopo ha iniziato con il basso.
A dicembre c'è stata la prima sessione orchestrale, presso gli Abbey Road Studios di Londra. Anche questa volta gli arrangiamenti sono stati seguiti da Pip Williams.
La seconda sessione di orchestra si è tenuta a Febbraio sempre a Londra, con la London Session Orchestra e il coro Metro Voices.
Le voci sono state registrate in un luogo ancora segreto nelle prime tre settimane di marzo e ora si sta completando il mix dell’album

Ospiti

In questo album saranno presenti numerosi ospiti, che conosceremo man mano che daranno il loro contributo alle registrazioni

	London Session Orchestra Come per Once l'orchestra diretta da Pip Williams sarà presente su numerosi pezzi del nuovo disco. Le registrazioni sono suddivise in due sessioni, la prima a Dicembre 2006, la seconda a Febbraio 2007. Durante la prima sessione i musicisti coinvolti sono stati 66.
	Coro Il coro, che ha già preso parte alle registraizoni agli Abbey Road studios di Londra, sarà presente in molti brani. Come per l'orchestra, rispetto a Once il numero di cantanti si è ampliato
	Troy Donockley E' un musicista molto particolare che, oltre a essere un virtuoso della Cornamusa è anche membro di una società di maghi, il Magic Circle. Nato in Cambria in una famiglia di musicisti, ha inciso il primo album nel 1998. La sua produzione musicale si contraddistingue per la fusione tra elementi clasissici e spunti della musica tradizionale inglese e irlandese.
	Nollaig Casey E' una dei musicisti irlandesi più dotati, con una straordinaria capacità di riproporre brani tradizionali irlandesi con il violino. Il suo particolare suono è un marchio di fabbrica, tanto che moltissimi artisti irlandesi hanno richiesto la sua collaborazione. Oltre al disco solista "The Music Of What Happened" ha partecipato ad alcuni album di artisti come Enya, Van Morrison o Sinèad O'Connor, solo per citarne alcuni.
	Guy Elliot e Tom Williams Nella foto qui a sinistra sono all'opera sull'unico brano in cui figureranno come ospiti. Si tratta di due voci bianche, come si può intuire dalla loro giovane età. Hanno registrato il loro contributo presso gli Abbey Road Studios di Londra.
	Jussi Tegelman Questo esperto di effetti e colonne sonore ha realizzato alcune soundscapes aggiuntive per un brano del nuovo album. Per avere un'idea della sua filmografia potete consultare questo sito. Tra le altre cose ha ricevuto due Nominations per i Golden Reel Awards.
