Il disco contiene 11 canzoni di cui:- Il primo singolo, intitolato Nemo, del quale è stato registrato anche un video, trasmesso da varie reti musicali europee.
- Una canzone intitolata Wish I Had an Angel, il secondo singolo. Questa canzone comparirà anche sulla colonna sonora del film Alone in The Dark, con Tara Reid e Christian Slater. Questo film è in uscita nelle sale Americane. In Giugno 2004 è stato girato anche il video, la cui direzione è stata affidata a Uwe Böll, regista anche del film.
- Una canzone in Finlandese, Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan, che significa La Morte Crea L'Artista. Si tratta del terzo singolo estratto dall'album; uscirà anche per Nuclear Blast una versione in inglese di questo brano.

Questo artista, della tribù dei Lakota, è originario dell'Arkansas. La sua musica è molto conosciuta (ha avuto anche una nomination per i NAMMY, cioè i Grammy Awards dei Nativi Americani).
John è un insegnante di cultura indiana, ha già pubblicato 6 album e scritto un libro sulla sua "musica guaritrice" (il libro si intitola "Good Medicine").
Nella traccia in questione suonerà il flauto, canterà e leggerà una poesia (il cui testo originale è stato scritto da Tuomas Holopainen) nella lingua Lakota.
- Durante le registrazioni delle parti vocali sono state fatte un po' di sperimentazioni sulla voce di Tarja, il cui risultato, a parere di Tuomas, è entusiasmante
Alcune canzoni (9 su 11 brani in totale) vedono la partecipazione di una vera orchestra "The Academy of St. Martin's". Questo ensemble ha partecipato anche alla soundtrack de Il Signore degli Anelli.
L'orchestra è stata diretta da Pip Williams, che ha lavorato con band come Uriah Heep e Status Quo fino dagli anni 70.
Nella sua carriera vanta numerose colonne sonore rock / soul, fino dagli anni '60. Le parti di Orchestra sono state registrate il 29 e 30 gennaio 2004 a Londra.
Durante le registrazioni in studio è stata realizzata anche una cover di Where Were You Last Night di Ankie Bagger. E' stata inserita come come B side nel singolo Wish I Had An Angel. Si tratta di una ripresa di un famoso pezzo dance anni '80 svedese.
Le parti vocali sono state registrate nella prima parte di febbraio 2004, le tastiere sono state registrate successivamente.
In Europa l'album è distribuito dalla Nuclear Blast (www.nuclearblast.de). Once è stato il primo album dei Nigtwish pubblicato da questa etichetta ed è diventato il suo maggiore successo di sempre, con oltre 200.000 copie vendute solamente in Germania.
